2018 was a really difficult year for me in more ways than one. Not just mentally, I just got stuck in the loop with my career. Moreover, on the New Year’s eve, I was home alone (with my husband stuck at work) and I just thought this cycle of negativity and despondence just has to stop. It dawned upon me that nobody will come to offer me happiness. If I want it, I have to go find it.
My top three new year resolutions were:-
1. Cutting off all negative people in my life (who called themselves my friends but there’s nothing just jealousy and negativity but if you look beneath the surface)
I’ve just closed the doors on these people and now what? I have more positive people in my life who support each other unconditionally. I can’t even begin how amazing is to have positive people around me and all this because I decided that I would no longer waste my time on someone who’s only dragging my mood down.
2. Living 100% in the moment
I’m a big dreamer. My mind is always somewhere else, some new exciting adventure, somewhere in a desert or swimming with tiger shark. However, in reality, when I get to these amazing places, I always try to be as perfect as I imagined, and I forget to enjoy it. I’m still a big dreamer, something doesn’t have to be changed. But I try to do my best and make sure to calm my mind with daily meditation, so when I’m in such exciting places, my mind seems to be able to relax as well and just take it all in by being 100% present in each moment.
3. Let my creativity out of the box
I belong to a very creative family and the one thing I’ve always known is that I’m good at it. It is great to see things differently and harness my latent potential to create beautiful things (Can be a picture, a drawing or even a short movie). Funnily enough, I always find some excuse why I don’t have time to do any of it. No more excuses! I dedicate at least one day each week to practice photography and video editing. It is therapeutic when we do what we love, and I feel it’s like a charger that propels me to keep moving forward.
MOOD RESET BUTTON
I would love to say something along the lines of: “I am going on a long walk to clear my head.’’ But the fact remains that when I’m really upset or frustrated about something, I’m like a dog with a bone…. I keep on grinding it and it is really difficult for me to just let it go. I am however, blessed to have a spiritual guide who helped me a lot over the years. I’m not saying everyone should have spiritual guide, but do find someone who does not always say what you want to hear and can give you the emotional support when you need it the most.
When it comes to everyday stress, the easiest way to switch my mind off and hit the reset button is to do some sort of physical challenge when I have no time to think about anything else; just how I can do THIS. I love bouldering, boxing or running where can I challenge and push my limits. You should give it a try; the next time you have something that just remains stuck in your mind, go for a run and try to do a bit more than what you think you can do. Just keep saying in your mind you can do it! And trust me, You can!
The only supplement I take is a vegan Vitamin D from Holland and Barrett. I believe most of the vitamins our body needs should be consumed by our meals. It took me a long time to realise what works for my body and actually eat those things.
I have always been a picky eater and making my meals aesthetically appealing helped me a lot. Lately, I’ve started experimenting with smoothies and slowly started to create my own healthy recipes in order to replace my grocery products such as granola, cereal or chips.
My current “diet” (I really don’t like labeling my eating habits, I think this can be so misleading) is 70% smoothies or pressed juice. For me, this is the best way to get my daily dose of vitamins. I try not to eat pasta or bread more than once a week or every two week. My body stores carbs for a long time and I feel less energized and satisfied after those meals. I always start my day with a big glass of water and have at least 2L of every day; I also don’t drink soft drinks, my alternative is Kombucha.
In a nutshell, I think that the best way to describe my nutritional plan is that I eat everything, albeit with a healthier twist and making sure if that I have some alternatives at home to satisfy my occasional cravings for chocolate.
LOVE YOURSELF REMINDER
“I’m the hero of this story.” – I even have a tattoo with this just as an everyday reminder.
I’m a skin-care addict, but in a very minimalistic sort of way. Trying to use a good combination of organic brands mixed with some others that work the best with my skin type. In my vanity, there are currently the two brands I have been using for the past year; The Ordinary (I am using two of their serums, one for acne treatment and one every day) and MAAEMO organic (I love their Elimination Mask and hydrating face cream) and my all-time favorite lip balm is the LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask. A year ago, I started to use crystal roller as a daily facial massage and it’s my favorite thing ever. I can watch a movie and just rolling my face for 2 hours straight (So relaxing).
Nothing beats a nice cup of coffee in the morning! But most of my days are really busy and full of activities. I constantly have to come up with new and creative ideas and this can surely be tiring. Because I’m sensitive to caffeine (if I have coffee after 1pm I can’t sleep till 4in the morning that’s for sure). I like to have a very weak matcha latte or Kombucha. It’s still contains caffeine but in a much subtle way and only after waking up my mind. I was never a fan of energy drinks or pills. I like to keep it natural and be mindful of what I put into my body.
SEX-CARE IS THE NEW SELF-CARE
Oh, absolutely! Luckily, you can now find more and more products that don’t contain toxic ingredients. (There is no regulation on what goes into the formulas, the very same formulas that are meant to go inside our bodies. The packaging, scents, and monikers assigned to each offering are all drenched in toxic masculinity) One product that I think is really worth the try is from Moon Juice – SEX Dust!
Sex Dust is a mix of adaptogens, including shilajit, shatavari. epimedium, maca, cacao, and schisandra, all of which is meant to combat stress. The ingredients work synergistically to increase your resistance to fatigue, providing energy, focus, and creativity. Besides working for your everyday life, it is also helpful in lifting your mood during sex.
I’m currently listening to The Plant Proof Podcast. I think this is a great podcast not just for people who are living a plant based lifestyle, but for everyone just to get a bit more knowledge on how to implement healthier choices to our everyday life as well as to listen to some really inspiring personal stories such as Jake McKeon – the founder of coconut bowls.
My main take is that we have to open up conversations and try to help to educate each other, not just on how to eat or live our life in a healthier way, but also it is also important to move forward in a much more eco-friendly lifestyle. We are living in probably one of the most amazing planets in our galaxy and we truly must treasure and appreciate every single part of it with all the living creatures, so that the generations to follow can see things like we did.
