If you’re anything like me, I had a PLAN when I was growing up. By 25 (yes, 25) I was going to be the Editor of Cosmopolitan, I was going to be married and just having my first child. My house would be in equal parts rustic and modern and I’d drive my family around in a Fiat 500. Well, when I hit 25 I had none of those things. I’d just come out of a long-term relationship, had a job that made me have a panic attack every day and still lived in London, so who needs a car? As for buying a house – you can think again.

This stressed me out massively and I began to feel like I was failing at every aspect of my life. I would feel envy at the achievements of my friends and practically ground myself to a half because I didn’t know what to do next. I was having a quarter-life crisis. A LinkedIn study a while back discovered that 72% of UK women have experienced a quarter-life crisis, and 32.4% would say they are currently having one. That’s a lot of us feeling like we’re not where we should be in our lives.

Now 29, I still don’t have everything I thought I wanted at 25, but I’m a fair way further on with achieving, partly because I’ve managed to make my goals more bitesize and realistic. While some of this has been plain old life experience and growth, I’ve learnt some tips along the way from some other great women.

We’ve pulled a list together of the ten best life coaches out there if you feel like you need that extra boost to get you where you need to be.

I’m hearing more and more about the things people think they “should” be doing, especially during lockdown. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👉 I should be learning a skill, a language a musical instrument ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👉 I should be taking more time for my hobbies ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👉 I should be trying to get fit, lose weight, tone up etc. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👉 I should be more productive now I don’t have a commute ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👉 I should be appreciating every moment I have with my children, partner, pet (all of the above) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I should be working harder.. I should be this… I should be that…. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I SHOULD I SHOULD I SHOULD. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “Should” is one of those words dripping in self disappointment and self punishment and is one of the most demotivating words out there and rarely inspires action in the same way “I WILL” or “I COULD” does. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Spending lock down, or even your life focussing on what you “should” do, is a life wasted. One day you’ll wake up only to realise it didn’t get you where you wanted to go, you didn’t enjoy the journey along the way, and you’ve got nothing to show for it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I speak from the experience of someone who did all the “shoulds”. I should want a six figure business (fb ads for webinars tell me that’s what I should want?!), I should be getting up at 5am and following the miracle morning – because otherwise I’ll be a big flop… ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Then there are the other “shoulds” because our peers do them… Facebook group, every social platform, podcast, YouTube, talks, workshops, networking events.. omg the list goes on. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Very little of what I did up until last year, I actually enjoyed, I did it because I felt pressure to do it. I was going to run a retreat just because I thought I should, when actually the thought of running a retreat made me groan and want to run away and hide! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So I ask you… what shoulds do you need to throw away, and what coulds are going in their place. Things YOU want for YOU? Not something society tells you that you “should” want. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What do you desire right now? And what one step will you take to make it happen? #smallandmightybusiness

One of the biggest mistakes I’ve made…⁣ ⁣ Asking other people for their opinions⁣ When my intuition was already loud + clear⁣ ⁣ I still remember the summer that I was planning to get a puppy, I was excitedly sharing my desire with nearly everyone I knew⁣.. ⁣ Overflowing with joy like a little girl on Christmas morning ⁣ Ever since I could say the word ‘puppy’ I’ve been stopping mid in my tracks when I see a dog… saying some version of ‘awwww look at the puppy!’ ⁣ ⁣ and then proceeding to obsess over them for 10minutes. 🥰🐶⁣ ⁣ Yes, still to this day. ⁣ ⁣ Ask literally anyone who knows me and they’ll confirm 😂 #NoShame⁣ ⁣ Bottom line is… it was only a matter of time before I welcomed a lil pup into my life and dedicated my whole heart to giving them the best life possible. ⁣ ⁣ Flashback to the summer I was gearing up to make this dream a reality —⁣ ⁣ I asked my friends and family if they had any thoughts on the matter ⁣ ⁣ And they began sharing ALL of the reasons that I should NOT get a puppy⁣ ⁣ Too much responsibility⁣ Too difficult to navigate when traveling⁣ Too messy and dirty⁣ Too expensive for vet bills ⁣ Yada yada yada 🤪⁣ ⁣ All of a sudden I felt a pit in my stomach⁣ ⁣ A lump in my throat⁣ ⁣ My excitement when from 💯 to 70⁣ ⁣ Was I making the wrong decision?⁣ ⁣ I doubted myself for at least a full week⁣ ⁣ How could something that was once SO clear⁣ all of a sudden be a stressor in my life?⁣ ⁣ I was torn⁣ ⁣ Am I being foolish?⁣ ⁣ No, I’ve already used discernment and thought through this decision with deep intention⁣ ⁣ Too impulsive?⁣ ⁣ No, this is something I’ve felt called to for 20+ years⁣ ⁣ and then it hit me like a brick…⁣ ⁣ I already knew the answer BEFORE I asked for feedback from others⁣ ⁣ I denied my intuition⁣ ⁣ I wanted validation and approval because I didn’t trust myself ⁣ ⁣ In this moment of realization, I knew (like reeeally knew) what the most aligned decision was⁣… ⁣ It was time to fully surrender to my inner knowing and welcome little Psilo Nelson into my life ☺️⁣ ⁣ TRUST YOURSELF. ⁣ It’s your life. ⁣ Not theirs.⁣ 👁
