5 Steps to Overcoming Post-Coachella Blues

Coachella is easily one of the most notable and popular cultural events of the year. Hundreds of thousands of people visit the Colorado Desert to enjoy these two three day-weekends, jam-packed with some of the biggest names in music and art – Kayne West performed his Sunday Service and a surprise collaboration of Justin Bieber & Ariana Grande.

Everyone who goes to Coachella raves about how incredible it is. The event is easily one of the biggest of its kind and the size, combined with the atmosphere and the music, all make it a completely unforgettable experience. This is great whilst you’re there but after leaving and returning to everyday life, it can really amplify that post-holiday sadness that happens when you know you have left an incredible memory behind.

We’ve all been through it. Whether it was a golden childhood holiday or just an incredible trip with a loved one, sometimes returning to the normality of everyday life can get you down. With an event as incredible as Coachella, this is amplified even more, but how can we deal with the post-Coachella blues? 1.Book a Few Days Off Work

Step one towards empowering yourself and getting through almost any sad situation is giving yourself time. Emotions are what make us human, but they can easily overwhelm us, which is why giving yourself a few days to come to terms with your feelings and work through them is crucial for dealing with post-Coachella blues.

Because Coachella takes place over two consecutive weekends, many visitors will head home on Sunday night and head straight back to work on Monday morning. This is far from ideal when you’re trying to get over what a great time you had at Coachella because it drops you right back into your daily routine! This is even worse if you spent a long time travelling and find yourself suffering from jet lag, leaving you feeling both fed up and tired at work.

Get around this shock to your system by booking Monday and Tuesday off work before you go away. This will help you get accustomed to your home environment again, deal with all of the emotions swirling around your head and prepare you for the return to work.

2. Get Outdoors

There is plenty of research showing that nature and the outdoors have an extensive impact on your mood and general happiness. Getting outside and enjoying the green spaces in your area, even if it’s just your garden or local park, can give you a boost.

This works because exercising causes your body to release endorphins, a neurotransmitter associated with happiness and increased energy.

This makes exercising perfect for when you are trying to get over the Coachella blues because it gives you time to think about and work through your emotions, whilst simultaneously giving you an overall mood boost. Even if you’re not a regular exerciser, something as simple as a long walk or a quick cycle ride can have a huge effect on how you feel.

4. Early Nights

Everyone needs sleep. Whilst it’s obvious that part of the reason we need to sleep is so that our muscles can rest, it’s also important to remember that your brain is a muscle and your mind needs rest too. Whilst sleeping, your mind orders your thoughts and events from the day, which is partly why getting a good night’s sleep is so important.

Dealing with negative emotions is extremely draining on your brain and without the appropriate level of rest, it makes the whole process more difficult. With this in mind, make sure that for the first few days after your return from Coachella, you grab an early night and get plenty of sleep. This will help you deal with those negative emotions more easily and prepare you for the next day with a more positive mindset.

5. Give Yourself Something to Look Forward to

As a final tip, if you’re still having issues with post-Coachella blues, consider giving yourself something new to look forward to. Book a holiday! Organise a visit to a close friend! Set aside an evening to enjoy with a loved one! The excitement and anticipation of occasions like these will help take your mind off Coachella in a positive way.
