Beating the Monday Blues

“I don’t suffer Monday blues at all. First of all, I think it’s all about being organized for Monday. On Sunday, you should be thinking about what you’re going to do on Monday – pre-planning. So, if you’re a parent, it’s all about what you are cooking that week and what food you’re sourcing. I also avoiding being a last-minute person saying, ‘Oh! I need this ingredient, that ingredient…’”

“…I always think of my planning from the food perspective.”

“Obviously, I have a baby food company – Piccolo, so I always think of my planning from a food perspective. I’m always cooking for my family, which means, on a Sunday evening, it should be a bit like ‘What do I have to cook this week?’ and also, ‘Have I planned some of the major things I need to plan to be successful?’ That’s what I do in order to be on the front foot on Monday.”

5:30 A.M. – Start My Morning

“On most days, I get up around 5:30 in the morning. Sometimes, I do feel tired but wake up anyway. In general, I’m quite a morning person and always get excited to start the day.”

“In terms of my skincare routine, I honestly don’t really do much. But generally, everything I buy tends to be organic – from organic cotton to Green People organic mascara. I also tend to look at the values offered by the company of anything I buy. For my child, I use Childs Farm 2 in 1 Shampoo & Conditioner. They make bubble baths and moisturizers for babies and toddlers. Sometimes, I use them myself as well. Another product I love to use is Taylor’s 32 toothpaste. They have interesting flavours and come with fluoride.”

6:00 A.M. – All About Meal-Preparation for My Child

“First, I have a coffee, and then tend to do some planning. A bit of everything is organized from a food perspective. I have a child, so I have to make sure that I’ve organized what she’s eating that night, if I’m out for Piccolo. I always prepare everything for the babysitter and for my child, so I’m less worried as to whether she’s being taken good care of.”

“I also like to make sure my child eats properly and that she’s getting the right nutritional balance. It motivates me to do meal preparation because you don’t want your kids coming home and eating snacks that are not really healthy to eat, just because they’re really hungry. So, I often wake up early and spend half an hour to one hour doing some food-preparation in order to make a good, balanced meal – Vegetables, rice and potatoes, as well as a whole chicken as a source of protein.”

7:00 A.M. – Go For a Swim

“I always go to the gym for a 7 a.m. class or go for a swim for roughly 40 minutes; therefore, I leave the house at 6:45 a.m.  I like the gym because there’s a pool and it is right underneath Piccolo. Most of our staff go there. We’re a very healthy team – all of us are quite into nutrition, working out and eating properly.”

8:00 A.M. – Breakfast with My Child

“I’d really look at what I’m eating for breakfast if I am feeling unmotivated. I usually make something extremely similar to our latest launched product – Mighty Squeeze, a squeezable snack range for toddlers. The recipe I use for my breakfast is a really classic one; I do berries, yogurt and chia seeds. I do a lot with chia as well – it’s a new super ingredient. I think it’s very important that you’re eating the right nutrients as an adult, because by doing that, you feel good from a physical perspective. If you always eat sugary foods with no nutritional benefit, it’s hard to stay on top of the game.”

“I also personally like berries because they are full of antioxidants and contain natural sugars. I have a berry shake almost every day, or make something with avocado. That’s my breakfast every single day. I share it with my child as well.”

9:15 A.M. – Organized for Success

“I’m pretty organized. I do take a lot of notes so that I remember to do things. I find Notes on the iPhone quite helpful too, and also put a lot of reminders in my calendar to remind myself to do things – whether it’s a teacher meeting or for my business.”

10:00 A.M. – Piccolo Is My Exciting Project

“We’re currently working on quite a lot of interesting products with different famers, such as our Mighty Squeeze range that I had mentioned earlier. It is made with many nutritious ingredients like amaranth, turmeric and pomegranate. We found that parents are much more adventurous with their food habits and are becoming increasingly aware of health properties, which they are keen to pass onto their children. So, we created this range that aims to help parents and their kids achieve the best-balanced lifestyle.”

“At Piccolo, I constantly put my full attention to making sure we can get the best ingredients for everything – that means I have to travel to Mediterranean farms a lot to source the best available ingredients.  I believe that it is always best to go with organic and locally-sourced ingredients because good ingredients make good food, and better-quality produce tend to have more good quality nutrients.”
