I don’t know about you, but to be quite honest I’m sure you’ll agree with me – 2020 was absolutely crazy and something that’s probably left consigned to the history books. Most of us make resolutions for the new year, but it’s likely that this year is all the more poignant due to the trials and tribulations that we have all been through, be it personal or professional.

If anything, 2020 taught us that life is too short for standing around waiting for life to happen. Because of this, we’ve chosen four thoughts to leave behind in the crazy hellfire that was 2020, and four positive thoughts to take into the new year with you. 2021 is your year!

#1 I Can’t Do This…

Who said that? Do you actually know you can’t do something, or is this negative self-talk? Whether you want to set up a business, a podcast, or even just be more social with your network, saying to yourself that you can’t do something sets you up immediately for failure. Let’s leave that one behind.

 

#2 I’m Too Old…

I have to admit, with all the restrictions across 2020, it’s easy to feel annoyed that you’ve had that time stolen from you, never to get it back. However, just because you may be a year further along in your life doesn’t mean that it makes any difference to the achievements you can make in the coming years. Age is nothing but a number and there’s no limit to what you can achieve. So many people created amazing things once they had a little life experience behind them.

 

#3 It Will Never Happen…

Again, who said that? If you have a dream and you have not achieved it yet, there is nothing to say that it won’t become a reality if you carry on with your hard work. Professionally, do you have a roadmap? A plan? Personally, are you actually making an effort to meet people or are you expecting things to fall into your lap? Keep going!

 

#4 They Are Better Than Me…

It’s time to let go of comparison culture in 2021. We all spend far too much time looking sideways instead of facing our dreams and goals head on. People reach different milestones at different times and that is FINE. Everyone’s circumstances are different, so you literally cannot compare your situation to someone else’s. Focus on your own journey and keep moving.

 

4 Powerful Mindsets Take With You Into 2021:

#1 I’m Excited…

Stop with the negative self-talk. Even if something hasn’t happened for you yet, allow yourself to feel excitement for when it DOES happen. Fill your days with positive emotions to spur yourself on to improve your mental health and wellbeing. You speak to yourself every day – make what you say good.

 

#2 My Life Is My Experience…

It can be easy to feel like a bit of a failure sometimes, especially when you’re berating yourself for your anxiety, depression or your other mental health concerns. But everything that happens to us is a journey and an experience, which all adds up to the bigger picture. You may not want to feel down, but when you do, this teaches you what your feelings feel like, and you work your mental muscles by bringing yourself out of it. Don’t see every bad experience as a negative thing.

 

#3 I’m Good Enough…

You will only be able to love someone else, or take the next step in your life if you accept that you are good enough to do what you’re doing, or to be who you are. There will be times when you have a little impostor syndrome, sure – but don’t let that get in the way of your dreams. You ARE good enough to get where you want to go.

 

#4 Look Up…

Whether it’s encasing ourselves in too much news and overwhelming ourselves with negativity, in 2021 we need to ensure we’re taking breaks from technology and putting ourselves into nature as much as possible. Look up and away from your phone or laptop. Create that space for yourself and allow yourself to switch off when you can. Your body and mind will thank you for it.
