Burnout Avoidance – Great Ways to Recharge Yourself

Burnout is a term that is starting to be used more widely as increasing numbers of millennial women is experiencing a lot of stress and often find themselves working longer hours than the standard 9 to 5. Although the term is being discussed in more detail, talk often focuses on the detrimental effects of burning yourself out, such as lack of motivation, poor work quality and even ill-health. However, rather than focusing on the negatives, Kossie, your London business magazine, looks at the ways to recharge yourself and avoid burnout completely!

What is Burn-Out?

Burnout is the term given to what you may feel after experiencing long periods of excessive stress or pressure to achieve. It can reduce productivity, lead to stress-related ill-health and even affect your day to day life, much like a physical illness would. Avoiding burn-out is important for everyone, although it is more commonly seen in those working high-pressure jobs and self-made entrepreneurs.

Day to Day

No matter what your job is, make sure to reward yourself with a tea break as you would during regular working hours. This can be done on a timed basis or you could reward yourself for reaching certain short-term or long-term goals.

Make sure to stretch regularly, especially if you work at a computer for long hours. You should also give your eyes a break by looking out the window or away from the screen. A great rule to prevent eye strain is the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, take a 20-second screen break and focus on something 20 feet away. This is a great way to reduce eye strain, headaches and other eye-related stress such as dry and itchy eyes or blurred vision.

Ambitious women such as self-made entrepreneurs tend to put a huge amount of hours in than those who work for a pre-established company and always find the motivation to push themselves that little bit further to get things done. Of course, this is necessary for many self-made businesses to get off the ground!

However, this can lead to a hard downfall when you find yourself too exhausted to work. At least once a week, ensure you give yourself a half or full day off where you can focus on things that aren’t work focused – friendships, relationships and self-care, for instance.

If you are concerned that giving yourself these breaks will cause you to fall behind on your work, it might be time to seek extra help with your business or project or simply set more reasonable expectations for yourself. If you burn yourself out, all that hard work will go to waste.

Life is for Living

Life is meant to be enjoyed and while, of course, we need to be able to fund the basics, it’s important that we don’t apply too much focus on funding expensive lifestyle choices that can often lead to us burning out rapidly.
