We’re on a mission to provide an affordable channel to boost your mental health. So, each week, we’re checking in with our community to see how they’re working on their mental health and their goal towards happiness. We invited toCourtney Barrett, Spiritual Side Hustle Coach to share us some tips to run a side hustle.
Q: “I have a good job, I’m good at it and it pays well but I’m not inspired or passionate about it. How can I run a side hustle to top up my income?”
A: “If you feel that inspiration and passion are missing from your job, then I would recommend starting a business that fulfils those areas for you. There are many kinds of side hustles you can start, but the kind I suggest is one that truly lights you up and is a joy to run. It’s something you can look forward to after work!
My best advice is to start by identifying your hobbies, strengths, and most transformational life experiences. Ask yourself: “what value do I have to share with the world?”. You can start simply with a brainstorm and see what connections you can make. For example, if you’d love to be a coach like I am, you can journal about the biggest challenges you’ve overcome and what helped you – this could be an area you’d be passionate and successful at coaching others through! Or, if you’d like to start a podcast, what topics could you talk about all day? What fun passions could you monetise?
As for running your business, my best recommendation to ensure you have enough capacity for everything is to schedule yourself well and set boundaries! Ask yourself what goals you have, what daily tasks are the most important, and will help move you forward. This is a great mindset tool since you will be able to visualise that you have more than enough time, but you will also stay accountable to yourself by seeing your business activities alongside your work/social activities and view them as non-negotiables.” – Courtney Barrett, Spiritual Side Hustle Coach
