How to stop stress eating during coronavirus and lock down at home?

With all the challenges of COVID-19, many of us are struggling with comfort eating. As a former yo-yo dieter and compulsive binge eater, I know just how debilitating it can be when you don’t feel like you have control over your food intake. Stuck at home, in some cases isolated from family and friends, filled with uncertainty of the future, perhaps with unexpected free time, in close proximity to the fridge…it’s understandable why this is causing us so much stress. For someone already struggling with binge or emotional-eating, this situation can be a recipe for disaster.   I think you know what I’m talking about…

“You may be stocking up on a week worth of food (because that’s what you’re told to do), but then you find yourself binge-eating everything in one night rather than spacing it out.”


“You may be finding excuses like ‘No-one will see me anyway’, so you give yourself permission to go on a binge-feast for a week.”


“Or perhaps you’re stressing about not getting enough movement in and are consequently restricting your food intake, only for it to backfire a day later when the cravings hit.”

  I completely get it. There was a time where binge-eating and worrying about my weight consumed my life…I can’t imagine how bad it would’ve gotten during a time like this!
