How to Use Social Media in a Positive Way
These days, social media is such a big part of communication and our day-to-day lives. We’re constantly scrolling through platforms such as Instagram and Twitter, liking photos and hoping for the same instant gratification back.
We all know the adage ‘don’t compare your behind the scenes to someone else’s showreel’. It makes perfect sense, but it can be hard not to end up feeling insecure on days when we might be feeling down, or vulnerable.
It’s important to keep that saying in mind when we may be having a tough day, but it’s also important to be proactive when it comes to your social media.
Here are some of the tips you can do on how to use social media in a positive way:-
1.Don’t be afraid to unfollow
If you’re following accounts that leave you feeling down or worried about things, simply unfollow them. Even if you used to love the account, it’s not worth your time to be viewing something that isn’t adding to your life. Unfollow them and move on.
If you feel awkward about perhaps unfollowing a friend, Instagram has a great ‘mute’ feature, whereby you continue to follow the individual, but no longer see their content. You can choose to mute their stories, posts or both.

Also, you can communicate with others. It’s almost easier to make friends online because you get a glimpse of who they are and what they like before you may even say a word to them. If there’s someone you’re interested in getting to know better, say something! Comment, send messages, and just get the conversation going. You never know how much value someone new could add to your life.
If you’re still struggling with social media, it’s wise to take a step back. Simply take a break. Delete apps from your phone so that you’re not tempted to go back on. Spend time away from your phone will give you a perspective on things. It’s amazing how refreshing a break can feel! Don’t worry — social media isn’t going anywhere.
