We invited toLaurie Trefaller, Holistic Life Coach, to share us tips to feel more hopeful about the future.

 

Q: “I’m unemployed due to COVID, and just moved in with my partner. We are both approaching 30 and have no idea how we are going to afford to tick any of the boxes in life. I’m starting to give up and lose hope on any easy breezy happily ever after. What should I do?”

 

A: “It sounds like you are experiencing many life transitions and milestones right now.  Even if some changes are exciting, they are also overwhelming, especially during a pandemic with such an increased level of uncertainty and stress.

First, acknowledge all the changes and challenges you are going through and remember they are temporary.

Next, create a list of everything you want to accomplish and have for yourself in the future.  Seeing these desires written down on paper can bring clarity of what you want to work towards.  You can also do this for discovering ways to both make and save money. What passions, skills, or talents do you have that can also make you money?

Then, incorporate a self-care practice into your daily routine.  This could be meditation, journaling, or using affirmations.  This practice will help you feel calmer by bringing you more into the present moment, rather than feeling anxious about the future, or sad about the past.  I also suggest cultivating a gratitude practice.  Finding gratitude in even the smallest of things will help you find more joy and peace in your everyday.

Also, allow yourself to grieve and process all your emotions.  This is a challenging time.

Lastly, take one step at a time, one day at a time.  Notice and acknowledge where you are right now, and see what small, tiny steps you can take to get you on the path to where you want to be. Be gentle with yourself through the process.” – Laurie Trefaller, Holistic Life Coach
