What is Relationship OCD?

For many of us, being in a romantic relationship is a lovely time in our lives. Learning about one another, going on exciting dates and wondering what’s coming around the corner though. For some though, being in a relationship can be a source of overwhelming anxiety. Even if things are technically going well, it may be that one party of the relationship is extremely worried about doing the wrong thing, overthinking their partner’s actions and even sabotaging the relationship themselves for fear of it ending unexpectedly. This behaviour is a form of relationship anxiety, which can become troublesome to the point that it could be diagnosed as relationship OCD. Over time, relationship ocd / anxiety can lead to:
  • Emotional distress
  • Lack of motivation
  • Fatigue or emotional exhaustion
  • Stomach upset and other physical concerns
It might not feel like it in the moment, but relationship anxiety can be overcome, though it does take some time and effort. And doing so usually involves more than simply being told that your relationship is fine.
