Okay… what is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is the combination of two words, ‘Ayur’ meaning life and ‘Veda’ meaning science or knowledge. By definition, Ayurveda is the science of life and utilises traditional Indian methods to treat illnesses through diet control, lifestyle changes and brain training.
Ayurveda is about much more than finding the right time to exercise. It’s about changing your outlook on life!
Ayurveda is guided by two key concepts:
- There is a connection between the body and the mind
- The mind is the most powerful part of the body, capable of healing and transforming singlehandedly

So, where Ayurveda is coming from?
Ayurveda has a long and colourful history with some ancient Sanskrit texts dating back as far as 2500 BCE. However, the most prominent texts were written between 800BCE and 400CE, one of which was written in poetic verses.
Wholeheartedly, it is a traditional Indian practice, with many people still practising some form of Ayurveda in their homes. Whilst it’s impossible to know exactly what led to the development of Ayurveda due to the age of the practices, some believe that the knowledge was gifted to the citizens by Hindi gods who sought to educate the people on how to look after their bodies. The result was a system of gentle rules and viewpoint changes that could have a drastic effect on both physical and mental health.
Ayurveda’s Effects on the Body and Mind
Ayurveda is popular because it works in multiple ways, not only improving physical wellness but also promoting mindfulness and balance throughout your lifestyle. Together, these changes can have a dramatic effect on the mind, improving mood, cognitive ability, memory, and more.
It is split into essential lifestyle rules, including:
