What is Emotional Insecurity? It’s totally normal to suffer with self-doubt, feeling inadequate, or feeling not good enough sometimes. Everyone feels this way at one point or another in their lives; it’s how you let these feelings affect you long-term which affects your psyche. However, some people feel emotionally insecure most of the time. This emotional insecurity can stem from the type of childhood you had, past traumas, experiences of failure or rejection, loneliness, social anxiety, negative beliefs about yourself, perfectionism, or having a critical parent or partner. Being emotionally insecure can affect your relationships with friends, family and even professionally. It can make you doubt your own abilities, feelings, and the way we act every day. When someone is emotionally unstable, they may seek out validation from other people in order to achieve a sense of false happiness.  

What Does Emotional Insecurity Look Like?

  • Feeling filled with self-doubt and short on confidence
  • Despite your accomplishments, do you feel like a fraud Feeling not deserving of love and that partners will inevitably leave you
  • Worrying about meeting new people because you don’t feel good enough
  • Telling yourself you are overweight, boring, stupid or ugly
